China has emerged as a leading contributor to the global open-source community, with over 2.2 million active developers in 2024, according to Ke Meng from OSS Compass.

This positions China ahead of India, which has around 2 million contributors.

The European Union and the United States follow with 1.9 million and 1.7 million active open-source developers, respectively.

Together, China and India are viewed as key players in the global open-source ecosystem’s eastward expansion.

This data was shared at the Open Atom Open-Source Ecosystem Conference in Beijing, now in its third year.

The event is organized by the Open Atom Foundation, a non-profit established in 2020 to support industry growth.
