China to review TikTok tech transfer in US assets deal
China said it will review the transfer of TikTok’s technology and intellectual property as part of a proposed deal to move ownership of the app’s US assets to American investors.
The comments came after US and Chinese officials reached a framework agreement in Madrid, with final confirmation expected following a call between US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping on September 19.
TikTok, owned by ByteDance, has about 170 million US users.
The deal is seen as a step forward in US-China economic talks, as both countries pause on new tariffs.
US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said a September 17 deadline could be extended by 90 days to finalize details.
