China tightens export restrictions impacting Apple’s supply
China has imposed restrictions on the movement of personnel and specialized equipment for high-tech manufacturing to India and Southeast Asia.
The measures aim to prevent production shifts due to potential United States tariffs under President-elect Trump.
Foxconn – Apple’s main assembly partner – has been affected, as it cannot send staff to India or receive machinery for its factories.
India has become crucial to Apple’s strategy to reduce reliance on China, with Foxconn’s Chennai plant responsible for half of India’s iPhone exports.
However, China is trying to prevent Foxconn from diversifying further, as its large operations are key to local employment and the electronics supply chain.
The restrictions have also impacted the manufacturing of electric vehicles and solar panels in India, with companies like BYD and Waaree Energies affected.
