China targets Nvidia in stricter checks on AI chip imports: report
China has increased enforcement of chip import restrictions, targeting domestic tech firms’ use of US-made products such as Nvidia’s AI processors, according to the Financial Times.
The report said customs officers have been deployed at major Chinese ports in recent weeks to conduct strict inspections of semiconductor shipments.
These checks reportedly aim to ensure companies stop buying Nvidia chips designed for the Chinese market, following guidance from regulators.
China’s Cyberspace Administration and other authorities had instructed major tech firms, including ByteDance and Alibaba, in September to stop ordering and testing Nvidia products, the Financial Times said.
Customs inspections have since expanded to cover all advanced semiconductor imports.
Reuters said it could not independently verify the Financial Times report.
