China will introduce a new K-visa for young tech and science professionals starting October 1, 2025.

The K-visa, approved by the State Council and signed into law by Premier Li Qiang, aims to attract global talent in tech and science fields.

Applicants do not need a Chinese employer for sponsorship, and the visa allows multiple entries, longer stays, and broader participation in scientific, educational, and entrepreneurial activities.

Applicants must meet the criteria set by the Chinese authorities and provide supporting documents.

This visa joins China’s 12 existing ordinary visa categories and follows recent moves to allow visa-free entry for tourists from over 40 countries.

China has several programs to attract international researchers, including the Talented Young Scientist Programme and the Outstanding Young Scientists (Overseas) Fund Project.

The move comes as the US announced a US$100,000 fee for each H-1B visa application, affecting many Indian and Chinese professionals.

Chinese universities have also increased efforts to recruit overseas academics with competitive salaries and research grants.
