China reportedly approves Nvidia H200 sales to tech giants
China has approved the purchase of Nvidia’s H200 AI chips by ByteDance, Alibaba, and Tencent, according to sources familiar with the matter.
The companies are authorized to buy more than 400,000 chips, with more firms expected to seek approval in future batches.
The approvals were granted during Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang’s visit to China this week.
However, the licenses come with restrictions, and some companies have yet to turn approvals into actual orders, sources said.
Chinese authorities have previously discussed conditions such as requiring a set ratio of domestic chips with each foreign purchase.
The Chinese government has not publicly commented on the approvals.
