China proposes global AI group as US tensions rise
Chinese Premier Li Qiang proposed creating an international organization to enhance global AI cooperation during the World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC) in Shanghai.
He emphasized the need for coordinated governance and a universally accepted framework for AI development.
Li also expressed concerns about AI’s rapid growth and security risks, calling for global consensus to balance innovation with safeguards.
China is open to sharing its AI advancements, especially with developing countries.
This comes after the US announced a low-regulation AI strategy under President Donald Trump, including an executive order targeting “woke” AI models.
Li warned against letting AI become an ‘exclusive game’ dominated by a few countries or companies.
He raised issues such as limited access to AI chips, barriers to talent exchange, misinformation, and job loss.
