China plans $272b investment in national data infrastructure
China has announced plans to enhance its national data infrastructure by 2029, with a focus on building an unifield national data market, according to the National Development and Reform Commission.
Zhulin Shen, deputy director of the National Data Administration, noted in a press briefing that approximately 400 billion yuan (around US$54.5 billion) is expected to be invested each year over the next five years, totalling 2 trillion yuan (around US$272.7 billion) during this period.
The initiative aims to integrate blockchain technology, encryption, and smart contracts to standardize data assets and improve traceability and trust in data systems.
Authorities also urged industries and local governments to adopt emerging technologies, such as privacy-protecting computing platforms and blockchain networks, in their infrastructure projects.
