China online retail sales climb 6.6% through April
China’s Ministry of Commerce said on May 26 that online retail sales of goods and services in January to April 2026 rose 6.6% year on year.
Online retail sales of goods accounted for 72.2% of growth in China’s total retail sales of consumer goods.
China’s retail sales rose 1.9% over the same period. Separate official data showed online retail sales of goods and services grew 8.0% in January to March.
Online sales of agricultural products rose 12.2%.
The ecommerce transaction value of metal products and chemical products increased 34.8% and 12.2%, respectively.
Online sales in tourism and catering jumped 33.2% and 20%, respectively.
The ministry added that under the Silk Road e-commerce initiative, some partner countries saw higher exports to China.
It cited online sales of Thai durians, Emirati beverages, and Italian casual pants, which rose 344.8%, 78.6%, and 22.8%, respectively, in the first four months.
