China moves to speed up AI computing in space
China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology will roll out policies to speed up space computing, as Beijing looks to improve real-time analysis, coverage, and anti-jamming capabilities.
The plan will support R&D in radiation-resistant chips and inter-satellite laser links, while a new committee will coordinate work on onboard AI chips, thermal control, and space-based photovoltaics.
The move comes as the US, Russia, and Japan also invest in in-orbit computing, and China’s position in the sector were made by officials and industry researchers.
