China-linked hackers target tech sector for AI: report
CrowdStrike, a US-based cybersecurity company, said in a report released on June 9 that technology is now the world’s most targeted industry.
China-linked adversaries accounted for more than 58% of state-sponsored intrusions against the sector, as attackers sought AI capabilities and related intellectual property.
The company said Murky Panda affected more than 340 US-based entities in a password-spraying campaign.
It also said Sunrise Panda ran sustained, multi-year operations in East and Southeast Asia.
The compromised a Southeast Asian technology provider’s Zimbra email infrastructure in an attempt to access communications from downstream government customers.
CrowdStrike has previously said Murki Panda aligns with Silk Typhoon, a China-linked espionage cluster.
The report also said financially motivated attacks made up 65% of all interactive operations against the sector.
US agencies have separately warned that China-linked access to sensitive data can expose intellectual property and damage competitive advantage.
