China launches open-source AI model for agriculture

Nanjing Agricultural University in China has released Sinong, an open-source large language model focused on agriculture.

Sinong is trained on a broad dataset that includes information from animal science, crop breeding, horticulture, veterinary medicine, agricultural economics, and more.

The model draws from nearly 9,000 books, 240,000 academic papers, 20,000 policy documents, and a wide range of online sources.

The team said Sinong uses technical solutions to address issues common in specialized AI models, such as providing outdated or incorrect information.

Sinong is available on platforms including ModelScope and GitHub, allowing institutions and developers to use and adapt the model for agricultural research and applications.
