The Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region in China has launched the “AI for All” competition to support startups targeting ASEAN markets.

Running from July to September, the event focuses on 17 sectors, including tourism, ecommerce, smart agriculture, and market regulation.

It was launched in eight cities, including Nanning, Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Hong Kong, Bangkok, and Kuala Lumpur.

Guangxi, which borders Vietnam, has hosted the China-ASEAN Expo for 22 years.

In 2024, its trade with ASEAN reached 398 billion yuan (US$55.4 billion), up 17% from the previous year.

Hong Kong and Guangxi plan to combine their AI strengths.

Hong Kong is positioning itself as a crucial bridge in this initiative, leveraging its established AI ecosystem of over 1,000 enterprises and research capabilities to connect Chinese AI development with ASEAN markets.

The city’s participation reflects its ongoing economic diversification strategy, with officials framing this as part of Hong Kong’s effort to “elevate AI as a key industry” and accelerate “deeper integration with ASEAN.”
