China investigates Foxconn employees in bribery case
The Chinese government has initiated an investigation into Foxconn employees after allegations of bribery and embezzlement.
This development follows Taiwan’s report that four Foxconn employees were detained under unusual circumstances in Zhengzhou, home to a major Apple assembly plant.
China’s Taiwan Affairs Office reported that the investigation focuses on Foxconn employees’ alleged involvement in bribery and embezzlement, although it has not disclosed the exact number of individuals under investigation.
In response to the situation, Foxconn has withheld public comment.
However, Taiwan’s Mainland Affairs Council said Foxconn reported no financial losses and asserted that the detained employees did not jeopardize the company’s interests.
Taiwanese investments in China have reached nearly US$200 billion since significant economic reforms began four decades ago, reflecting a deep interdependence driven by cultural and linguistic ties, along with much lower operational costs.
