China to boost ‘sci-tech’ venture capital

China is implementing strategies to enhance venture capital, supporting the growth of science and technology firms amid challenges in the country’s capital market.

During a recent State Council meeting, Chinese Premier Li Qiang detailed initiatives to facilitate financing, investment, and management for venture capital firms and promote the listing of qualified science and technology companies on domestic and international stock exchanges.

According to the Asset Management Association of China, private equity funds in the country exceed 19 trillion yuan (over US$2.6 trillion).

Venture capital funds have invested in around 100,000 projects within key science and technology sectors, such as semiconductors and biomedicine, amounting to roughly 4.3 trillion yuan (approximately US$607 billion).
