PT Equator Gate System Batam (EGSB) said on May 29 that a China-backed data center developer backed by Range Intelligent Computing Technology Company Limited, committed 88 trillion rupiah (US$5 billion) to build a high-density AI data center in Batam, Indonesia.

The project would be Range IDC’s first expansion outside China.

BP Batam signed a power sale and purchase agreement involving PT PLN Batam and EGSB to secure electricity for the project.

The agency added that it would speed up execution.

The project could also create 700 to 800 digital technology jobs through partnerships with local universities.
