China approves 64 genAI services, smallest batch this year
China’s Cyberspace Administration has approved 64 new genAI services in November, making it the smallest batch of approvals this year.
It brings the total number of licensed genAI services to 252, all developed by domestic companies.
The approved services span various industries, such as legal aid, medical research, educational technology, and online gaming.
Among the notable tech giants, Tencent received approval for an AI-enhanced search system. NetEase gained clearance for a sales and marketing tool under its ecommerce division.
Other approved services include video-creation tools from Kuaishou Technology and developments by Damo Academy, an AI research institute under Alibaba Group.
These approvals underscore China’s stringent GenAI licensing system, requiring government authorization for public use models.
