ChatGPT, Microsoft’s Copilot to leave WhatsApp by 2026
OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Microsoft’s Copilot will no longer be available on WhatsApp after January 15, 2026, due to changes in the messaging app’s terms of service.
WhatsApp, owned by Meta, is updating its business API policy to ban the use of rival AI chatbots as distribution tools, limiting the platform to customer support and update services.
ChatGPT and Copilot users can access the chatbots on WhatsApp until the new terms take effect, but only ChatGPT users have an option to transfer their chat history.
Other AI chatbot providers, such as Perplexity, are also expected to exit WhatsApp under the new rules, leaving Meta’s own AI chatbot as the main option on the platform.
WhatsApp first announced the policy change in October 2025.
