CATL subsidiary plans $167m venture fund investment

CATL, the China-based battery maker also known as Contemporary Amperex Technology Co Limited, said its wholly owned subsidiary, Ningbo Wending, plans to invest 1.12 billion yuan (US$167 million) in Xiamen Times Yiyuan Venture Capital Fund Partnership as a limited partner.

The commitment would give Ningbo Wending a 19.4175% subscribed interest in the fund.

CATL said the deal is a related-party joint investment because its controlling shareholder, Xiamen Ruiting, also plans to join the fund as a limited partner.

Xiamen Ruiting currently holds 1.02 billion CATL A shares, equal to 22.04% of the battery maker’s total share capital.

The filing also reflects CATL’s use of fund structures.

In Indonesia, CATL, the Indonesia Investment Authority, and CMBI said they would establish a green fund focused on investment across the end-to-end electric vehicle value chain.
