CATL, Nio team up to develop longer-lasting EV batteries

CATL and Nio have signed a five-year agreement to develop EV batteries with longer lifespans as China’s industry faces potential mass battery replacements in the coming years.

CATL, based in Ningde, is the world’s largest EV battery maker and supplies firms such as Tesla, BMW, and Volkswagen, while Nio is a Shanghai-based EV manufacturer.

The companies said they will work on new battery technologies to address the issue of aging batteries, which could impact China’s 40 million EV owners.

The partnership also includes work on battery swap technology, enabling quick battery exchanges for EVs.
