Carousell live-selling GMV up about 6x after regional push

Carousell, a Singapore-founded secondhand marketplace, said on November 4 that it had expanded its live-selling feature from Singapore to Hong Kong and Malaysia using software from Agora, a Santa Clara-based real-time software company.

Carousell said gross merchandise value (GMV) and bidder numbers rose about 6x in the first five months of the rollout.

Viewer numbers increased about 4x over the same period.

The company also said the number of live shows grew about 13x.

The number of sellers hosting live shows each month increased 5x.

According to Carousell, the feature includes real-time bidding, an anti-snipe timer, and a requirement for bidders to link a payment card and delivery address before joining auctions.
