Canva restructuring to hit 22% of staff after growth slows
Canva, the Sydney-based online design and publishing platform, said 1,271 employees, or 22% of its workforce, will lose their jobs, change roles, or relocate to central offices in a restructuring after the company’s first growth slowdown in a decade.
Chief executive Melanie Perkins said the changes are meant to simplify the business and reduce niche specialisations. Sydney will become the main base for more of Canva’s product teams.
Perkins did not say how many employees would be laid off. She also said most hybrid employees will spend two to three days a week in the office from January.
The changes come as software companies rethink staffing and operating models as AI tools reshape how teams work.
