Canada maritime robotics firm secures $2m for SEA plans

Open Ocean Robotics (OOR), a Canadian maritime robotics company, has secured CA$2.8 million (around US$2 million) in a funding round co-led by Antares Ventures.

“Antares Ventures will support Open Ocean Robotics to expand across Southeast Asia,” the VC firm said on LinkedIn, adding it would use Singapore as the regional expansion basis.

“Antares Ventures’ investment thesis centered around the huge opportunity for OOR to support maritime monitoring in Southeast Asia,” it added.

The company specializes in uncrewed surface vehicles for ocean monitoring with no greenhouse gas emissions.

The funding round included investors such as Spring Impact Capital, Katapult Ocean, Alacrity Canada, and DTN Ventures LLC.
