ByteDance reportedly set to post $50b profit in 2025

ByteDance, the Beijing-based parent of TikTok, is projected to earn about US$50 billion in profit in 2025, according to sources familiar with the matter.

The company recorded roughly US$40 billion in net income during the first three quarters of the year.

ByteDance reportedly aimed for a 20% rise in 2025 sales to US$186 billion, with valuations recently ranging from above US$400 billion to as high as US$480 billion.

ByteDance is nearing completion of a plan to separate TikTok’s US operations into a joint venture with a majority stake held by American investors, including Oracle, though approval from Chinese regulators is still pending.

Despite US government scrutiny over national security concerns, TikTok has continued to expand globally and entered new sectors such as ecommerce and livestream shopping.

🧠 Food for thought

Implications, context, and why it matters.

Chinese approval over algorithm exports could set the divestiture timeline

  • Washington extended ByteDance’s divestiture deadline to December 16, 2025 12. The deal depends on Chinese approval to license or export TikTok’s recommendation algorithm, the software that decides which videos users see, under Chinese export control laws 12.
  • Deal terms cap ByteDance’s stake below 20 percent with a US-controlled board 31. The algorithm may stay licensed from the Chinese parent rather than be transferred, so a US entity could use it under contract while ByteDance keeps ownership 31.
  • Beijing requires approval for algorithm exports 2, which adds regulatory risk that could delay or reshape any joint venture as officials review technology transfer terms 1.

TikTok Shop’s 2025 expansion creates near-term openings for ecommerce service providers

  • TikTok Shop hit $2 million in one-day GMV during the 2025 US Black Friday event, and over 60 percent of sales ran through creator-affiliate channels, according to CedCommerce’s reporting 4 (CedCommerce is an ecommerce solutions provider). The surge raises needs for payments, fulfillment, and compliance services.
  • The Marketing Partners Program added a Shop Ads track 5. Partners include Flywheel and Helium10 5. Pacvue and Quartile also joined 5. Teikametrics is in the group 5. The track gives vendors a path for catalog integration, GMV Max campaign setup (an automated campaign type designed to maximize sales), and inventory tools 5.
  • Agencies and SaaS firms with direct TikTok Shop integration and GMV Max setup should apply for official partner status 5. Add catalog syncing (keeping product listings up to date across systems) and performance reporting (dashboards and analytics) to strengthen the case 5.
