ByteDance names ex-Google exec as AI research head
ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok, has appointed Wu Yonghui to head foundational research on AI.
Wu, a former Google executive, will lead ByteDance’s Seed department, an initiative established in early 2023 to further research in large language models and generative AI.
He will oversee foundational research within the Seed department.
Wu has a 17-year tenure at Google, including roles at Google Brain, the company’s research arm focused on machine learning and natural language processing.
His last position at Google was vice-president of research at DeepMind, Google’s AI research lab.
