ByteDance launches Melolo app, expands short drama team
ByteDance is building a business team for its overseas short drama venture, recruiting product managers, operations staff, and scriptwriters in Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, and other locations.
As part of this expansion, the company has launched “Melolo,” an international short drama app.
Released in mid-November 2024, Melolo offers free short drama content and is currently available in markets like Indonesia and the Philippines.
The short drama format is rapidly gaining global popularity.
China’s short drama user base reached 576 million by mid-2024, with the domestic market valued at 50.44 billion yuan (US$6.88 billion), surpassing annual box office revenue.
