ByteDance launches AI code editor for developers

ByteDance has released an AI code editor called Trae, designed for overseas markets.

The integrated development environment (IDE) allows developers to use an AI assistant for tasks such as generating code snippets or creating project-level code with natural language prompts.

Trae’s AI features are supported by OpenAI’s GPT-4o and Anthropic’s Claude-3.5-Sonnet, currently available for free.

The tool includes an interface in both English and Chinese and is launched for Apple macOS, with a Windows version under development.

It is based on Microsoft’s Visual Studio Code, which is an open-source IDE and built on the Electron framework utilizing web standards from Google’s Chromium.

Distributed by ByteDance’s Singapore subsidiary, Spring (SG) Pte, Trae aims to rival established American IDEs like Visual Studio Code as ByteDance expands its global tech presence.
