BYD targets 800k overseas EV sales by 2025
BYD plans to double its overseas sales to over 800,000 units by 2025, according to chairman Wang Chuanfu during an earnings call on Mar. 25.
To address potential tariff challenges, BYD plans to assemble vehicles locally while sourcing key components from China.
The company is also expanding in markets such as Latin America, Southeast Asia, and Britain, which are perceived as open to Chinese products.
The company is building factories in Brazil, Thailand, Hungary, and Turkey but has no plans to enter the US or Canada due to tariffs.
BYD expects overseas markets to drive future profits and plans to expand its software team from 5,000 to 8,000 employees.
