New car sales in the European Union, the UK, and the European Free Trade Association rose 5.9% in July to 1.1 million units, according to data from the European Automobile Manufacturers Association.

BYD, included in the monthly data for the first time, saw sales jump 225.3%, capturing 1.2% of the market.

Tesla’s market share fell to 0.8% from 1.4% a year earlier, as its sales dropped 40.2%.

Volkswagen and Renault posted year-on-year registration increases of 11.6% and 8.8%, while Stellantis saw a 1.1% drop.

Sales of battery electric, hybrid, and plug-in hybrid cars increased 39.1%, 56.9%, and 14.3%, respectively, making up nearly 60% of registrations in the EU.
