BYD, a Shenzhen-based Chinese electric vehicle maker, said global vehicle sales rose 21.8% year on year to 419,211 units in July, a third straight month of growth, as overseas demand helped offset weaker conditions in China.

Overseas shipments of passenger vehicles and pickups jumped 124.3% from a year earlier to 179,841 units, based on BYD disclosures.

BYD’s domestic registrations in China declined from June.

The domestic market remains challenging. Average discounts on BYD vehicles in China rose to a record 10% in March 2026 as the country’s electric vehicle price war intensified.

BYD is also expanding production overseas. Its Brazil plant began passenger electric vehicle production on July 1, 2025, while the company said its Hungary factory remained on track to start production by year-end.

In Europe, BYD faces an additional 17.4% European Union anti-subsidy tariff on China-made electric vehicles.
