BYD EVs recalled due to steering defect

BYD is recalling nearly 97,000 electric vehicles because a defect in the steering control unit may cause a fire, according to China’s State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR).

The affected models, Dolphin and Yuan Plus, were manufactured in China between November 2022 and December 2023.

The Dolphin and Yuan Plus were BYD’s best-selling models in 2023, accounting for 26% of the company’s three million vehicles sold that year, according to the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers.

This was one of the few recalls for BYD’s pure electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles.
