BYD consortium wins deal to test autonomous buses on SG public routes
Singapore’s Land Transport Authority (LTA) has awarded an S$8.1 million (US$6.3 million) contract to a consortium of BYD, MKX Technologies, and Zhidao Network Technology to trial autonomous buses on public routes.
The three-year trial will begin in the second half of 2026 on services 400 and 191, with six 16-seater autonomous electric buses supplied by China-based EV maker BYD.
MKX Technologies, a Singapore-based company, will oversee local research, development, and project management, while Beijing’s Zhidao Network Technology will supply the autonomous driving systems.
Huawei will provide fast-charging infrastructure for the project.
A safety operator will be on board each bus during the initial phase, with up to 14 more buses and expanded routes possible later.
