BYD plans to produce auto batteries in Europe to support its growing car business in the region.

The company is building a plant in Hungary to start in late 2025 and another in Turkey set for 2026, targeting capacity of 500,000 vehicles a year.

BYD, which sells EVs and plug-in hybrids in Europe, is still deciding whether its next project will be a third car plant or a battery factory.

Future investments may be spread across Europe, with energy costs among the main factors influencing the decision.

Special adviser Alfredo Altavilla said Berkshire Hathaway’s recent BYD share sale was in line with its usual strategy, not a sign of mistrust.
