Bybit becomes first to enable global stock trades with USDT

Bybit has launched a feature that lets users trade global stocks using USDT.

The new service includes 78 major equities such as Apple, Tesla, Meta, Nvidia, and Amazon.

This offering is part of Bybit’s Gold & Forex (MT5) product suite.

Users can now access stocks, gold, oil, indices, and forex without using fiat currency.

Bybit states it is the first major cryptocurrency exchange to provide unified trading of both digital and traditional assets through a single account and wallet.

To mark the launch, Bybit is offering a 50% discount on stock trading fees from June 2 to June 15, 2025.

🧠 Food for thought

1️⃣ Cryptocurrency exchanges expanding into traditional assets follows a natural market evolution

Bybit’s move to offer stock trading using stablecoins represents a significant milestone in the convergence of traditional and decentralized finance that has been developing for years.

This integration addresses a fundamental limitation that cryptocurrencies were originally designed to overcome, the reliance on intermediaries and centralized authorities in traditional payment systems 1.

Since Bitcoin’s introduction in 2009, we’ve seen a gradual progression from purely decentralized assets toward hybrid systems that incorporate elements of both traditional and crypto finance 2.

The ability to trade stocks using USDT directly addresses a key friction point, the need for fiat on-ramps and off-ramps, that has historically separated the crypto ecosystem from traditional markets 3.

This development follows the broader pattern of cryptocurrency exchanges evolving beyond simple trading venues into comprehensive financial platforms, similar to how Bybit has expanded its offerings to include derivatives and other financial products 4.

2️⃣ Millennials’ changing investment preferences are driving financial innovation

Bybit’s integration of traditional stocks with crypto trading aligns with shifting investment preferences, particularly among millennials who comprise 1.8 billion people globally and are poised to have the highest spending power of any generation 5.
