Bureau of Indian Standards raids Amazon, Flipkart warehouses
The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) raided Amazon and Flipkart warehouses in Tamil Nadu on Mar. 19, for violating certification norms in the Tiruvallur and Thiruvallur districts.
At an Amazon warehouse in Tiruvallur, BIS seized 3,376 uncertified products, including flasks, water bottles, food containers, fans, and toys that violated quality control orders.
A separate raid at a Flipkart warehouse in Thiruvallur found 286 baby diapers, 36 insulated hotpots, and 36 water bottles without the required BIS standard mark, violating the BIS Act, 2016.
BIS Chennai head, G Bhavani, stated that legal action would be taken, with penalties including up to two years in prison or up to ten times the value of non-compliant goods.
This is the second BIS raid on these e-commerce platforms in March, following similar crackdowns in Lucknow, Gurugram, and Delhi for selling uncertified products.
