Bumble to go private in $1.3b deal as revenue falls

Bumble, the US dating app company, said it agreed to a US$1.3 billion sale to Ithaca Holdings after an independent board committee reviewed its options.

The deal would take Bumble private as revenue and paying users declined.

Founded by Whitney Wolfe Herd in 2014, Bumble went public in 2021. The company reported second-quarter 2026 revenue of US$211 million, down 15.2% from a year earlier.

Its paying user base fell 16.4% to about 3.2 million, the company said.

Bumble said Wolfe Herd did not participate in the board’s discussions or vote on the deal. She plans to stay involved as Bumble explores AI-driven features and develops an alternative to swipe-based matching.

Bumble competes with online dating companies including Match Group, which operates dating products.
