Broadcom signs 10-year VMware deal with NTT Docomo

Broadcom said it signed a 10-year deal with NTT Docomo, a Japan-based telecom operator, on October 20.

The deal covers VMware software licenses, technical assistance, and maintenance support for the private cloud that powers Docomo’s digital services.

Broadcom said the contract is its first 10-year VMware agreement in Japan covering those services.

It builds on the companies’ work on Docomo’s private cloud, which began in 2019.

The deal includes VMware Cloud Foundation, which is already at the core of Docomo’s private cloud.

Docomo plans to use VMware vSphere Kubernetes Service to run virtual machines and containers on a common platform.

Broadcom said the companies plan to add AI workloads to the platform as they upgrade Docomo’s service infrastructure.
