Brazil’s Supreme Court has lifted the August ban on X, citing its compliance with court orders related to disinformation during the country’s 2022 election campaign.

Judge Alexandre de Moraes announced the decision following X’s payment of nearly US$5.2 million in fines.

Judge Moraes directed Brazil’s communications regulator to restore access to X within 24 hours.

Subsequently, X stated its commitment to uphold free speech in compliance with the law.

X faced suspension for not appointing a legally required representative in Brazil.

The ban impacted X’s operations in a vital market of approximately 22 million users.
