Bosch, a Stuttgart-based technology and services company, will pay the US Commerce Department US$36.18 million, the agency said on June 17.

The case involves shipments of products and software to Huawei and its affiliates without a required license between 2020 and 2024.

The Commerce Department said the items were subject to the Export Administration Regulations under the Huawei foreign direct product rule. That rule can require licenses for certain foreign-made goods derived from US technology when a listed Huawei entity is involved in the transaction.

Bosch said the violations were unintentional.

The US Justice Department declined to prosecute after Bosch self-disclosed and cooperated. The Bureau of Industry and Security said about US$3.6 million of the penalty will be suspended as credit for a separate profit-disgorgement payment.

The case follows BIS’s 2023 Seagate settlement, which carried a US$300 million penalty over Huawei-related shipments and highlighted enforcement against foreign-produced goods tied to US technology.
