BMW is reviewing the timeline for manufacturing all-electric Mini vehicles in the UK due to uncertainties in the automotive industry.

The company had committed £600 million (US$757.8 million) in 2023 to transition Mini to an all-electric line-up by 2030, with production set to begin in Oxford in 2026.

However, a statement on Feb. 22 confirmed that BMW is reassessing these plans.

The automotive sector faces challenges, including slower-than-expected EV sales and potential trade tariffs.

US President Donald Trump has threatened a 25% tariff on auto imports, prompting manufacturers like Audi and Mercedes-Benz to boost production in North America.

Despite the review, BMW said that construction at the Oxford Mini plant is progressing, though it has informed the UK government of its decision to reassess the timeline and will forgo a previously announced grant.
