BMW partners with Alibaba to bring AI to China cars
BMW Group has announced a partnership with Alibaba Group to develop an AI engine for its next-generation vehicles in China.
The collaboration will integrate Alibaba’s Tongyi Qianwen models and Banma in-car AI platform to enhance BMW’s smart cockpit features.
The new AI engine will update the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant to better serve Chinese consumers. It is set to debut in the Neue Klasse series, which BMW plans to launch in China in 2026.
This AI-powered system aims to facilitate more natural voice interactions. It will also enhance in-car mobility services. BMW will showcase these features at the Shanghai Auto Show in April 2025.
