Blackstone to invest $25b in Pennsylvania data centers, gas plants
Blackstone, a private equity firm, plans to invest US$25 billion in developing data centers and natural gas power plants in Pennsylvania.
The announcement was made by President and Chief Operating Officer Jon Gray during the Energy and Innovation Summit in Pittsburgh on July 15, 2025.
The firm has identified several sites in Pennsylvania for the data centers.
Additionally, it intends to collaborate with an electric utility to build natural gas power generation facilities to provide energy for these centers, according to Gray.
The initiative aims to establish co-located projects, where data centers are constructed next to power plants.
This strategy may help mitigate delays related to supply chain and permitting challenges that frequently affect infrastructure development.
Gray noted that co-location allows for better integration between data centers and their power sources.

Blackstone currently manages approximately $60 billion in infrastructure assets across various sectors including digital infrastructure, with their overall portfolio companies valued at around $192 billion 1.
This expansion builds upon their previous strategic data center investments, including their equity investment in Ascenty, a leading Brazilian data center operator, which they backed to accelerate growth across Latin America 2.
The Pennsylvania investment represents a significant domestic scaling of their data center strategy, which already includes QTS, described as the largest data center provider in the US 1.
