Blackstone invests up to $75m in India AI cloud firm Neysa

Blackstone has finalized a structured investment in Mumbai-based AI cloud startup Neysa, with an initial commitment of US$50 million to US$75 million.

The deal values Neysa at about US$300 million and could rise to a controlling stake if milestones are met.

Neysa has raised US$50 million across two funding rounds and was last valued at US$120 million to US$130 million.

Founded in 2023 by CEO Sharad Sanghi, Neysa provides GPU-led AI cloud infrastructure for enterprises.

The investment marks Blackstone’s entry into India’s AI data center sector, where it manages about US$50 billion in assets.

Existing investors include Z47, Nexus Venture Partners, Blume Ventures, and NTT, and the sector is expected to attract over US$50 billion in investments in the next five to seven years.

🧠 Food for thought

Implications, context, and why it matters.

Key deal terms to probe before assuming control shifts

  • Pin down what stake $50–75 million buys and whether $300 million valuation is pre- or post-money (pre-money is before new cash; post-money is after).
  • Define what triggers milestone-linked control, including revenue, contracted GPU capacity, or signed deals.
  • Confirm tranche timing and governance. Check board rights and any convertibles or warrants (convertibles turn into equity; warrants are options to buy shares).
  • Check reported terms against Neysa’s statement, “The details currently being shared are materially and substantially inaccurate and are very far from the facts”.
  • Map how Blackstone’s new data centre platform led by Sharad Sanghi will coexist with its Lumina Cloudinfra joint venture (JV) to avoid conflicts.
  • Probe customer concentration and contract durability, including top-five revenue share.
  • Assess policy risk from the draft National Data Centre Policy’s 20-year tax holiday tied to capacity, energy, and job milestones, plus state policies.

Where operators and investors can plug into India’s AI infra buildout in 2026

  • GPU cloud operators can supply overflow compute or run dedicated capacity.
  • MLOps/platform vendors should bundle tooling plus managed services for build, run, and manage needs for enterprises, startups, and government. MLOps (machine learning operations) refers to tools and processes to deploy, monitor, and maintain ML models in production.
  • Specialists in energy or cooling can offer performance-linked contracts that help operators meet capacity plus energy milestones tied to potential 20-year tax holidays.
  • Hardware resellers and financiers can align supply and financing with milestone-based mechanics.
  • Real estate with regional partners should align site selection with states rolling out policies. Examples include Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh. Odisha and Tamil Nadu are active.
  • Co-investors and credit funds can back capital-intensive AI infrastructure with governance protections that mirror milestone-linked, control-oriented terms. Credit funds are private lenders that provide non-bank debt capital.
  • Go-to-market integrators can pursue enterprise and government contracts to anchor Blackstone’s data centre platform. Go-to-market integrators are systems integrators and consulting firms that package and implement multi-vendor solutions.
