Blackstone, banks to fund $63b Broadcom chip deal for Anthropic

Bank of America, Citi, Morgan Stanley, and Blackstone will provide US$63 billion in financing for a special purpose vehicle to buy Broadcom’s AI chips and networking gear and lease them to Anthropic.

The deal is a major debt transaction tied to AI infrastructure.

Broadcom is offering residual value support to senior lenders, effectively giving them a guarantee. Deliveries are expected to begin in 2027 under an earlier compute capacity agreement.

The deal was announced on October 26, the same day Anthropic filed for an initial public offering. It follows an earlier US$35 billion financing involving Apollo, Blackstone, and banks for Broadcom’s AI XPV platform.

The package is far larger than CoreWeave’s US$8.5 billion and US$2.6 billion facilities, as data center and AI infrastructure projects increasingly use structured finance, equipment financing, and sale-leaseback arrangements.
