🧠 Food for thought
1️⃣ Bitget’s surge coincides with explosive derivatives market growth
Bitget’s rapid ascent from 4.6% to 7.2% market share occurs within a derivatives market experiencing significant expansion.
The cryptocurrency derivatives market is projected to exceed $23 trillion in annual trading volume by the end of 2025, with Bitcoin derivatives alone showing open interest surpassing $70 billion in the first half of 20251.
This market growth is driven by factors that benefit exchanges like Bitget: 82% of derivatives market professionals cite political instability as a key growth driver, while retail participation in derivatives markets is increasing due to improved access and product innovation2.
Bitget’s $92 billion in futures volume processed in April 2025 alone demonstrates how newer exchanges can capture significant volume when the overall market is expanding at this pace.
2️⃣ Specialized derivatives focus can outpace general exchange rankings
Bitget’s third-place ranking in derivatives contrasts with its sixth-place position among all spot exchanges, highlighting how specialization can drive competitive advantage in specific market segments.
While CoinMarketCap tracks 254 spot exchanges with a combined $1.07 trillion in daily volume, with Bitget ranking behind Binance, Bybit, Coinbase, Upbit, and OKX3, the derivatives market shows different competitive dynamics.
The company’s ability to surpass Binance in ETH-based derivatives liquidity within key trading ranges demonstrates how focused execution in specific products can challenge even dominant market leaders.
