Bitcoin rose above $64k but rebound stays limited
Bitcoin rose above US$64,000 in Asia on August 17, up about 0.5% on the day.
The cryptocurrency remained nearly 3% lower over the past seven days, as a weaker US dollar and lower expectations for a Federal Reserve rate increase failed to push prices out of their recent range.
At that level, bitcoin still trades about 50% below its all-time high of US$124,496, showing the rebound remains limited.
HYPE, the native token of Hyperliquid, a decentralized derivatives exchange, rose more than 3% to about US$59 and nearly 9% for the week, making it the strongest performer among major tokens.
Ether, XRP, solana, dogecoin, tron, and BNB posted smaller daily moves.
HYPE is used for staking, governance, gas fees, and trading fee discounts.
Hyperliquid’s perpetuals platform has processed US$170.2 billion in trading volume over the past 30 days.
US retail sales data released on August 14 showed the sharpest monthly drop in more than a year.
Swaps traders now see about a one-in-four chance of a Fed rate increase next month, down from roughly 50% a week earlier.
