Bitcoin falls after Fed implies 2026 rate hike

Crypto prices fell on June 18 after the US Federal Reserve kept its benchmark rate at 3.5% to 3.75%.

The central bank also released projections implying a hike in 2026, signaling a more hawkish policy outlook than previously expected.

Bitcoin traded around US$63,900, down 3% over 24 hours.

Ether fell 3.4% to US$1,733, XRP dropped 3.9% to US$1.17, Solana lost 3.6% to US$71, and Hyperliquid’s HYPE token slid 7.2% to US$69.

Tron was the only major crypto token to rise, up 0.9%.

Hashdex, a Brazil-based crypto asset manager, said Bitcoin may stay between US$60,000 and US$70,000 in the coming weeks unless a new catalyst emerges, according to Gerry O’Shea, its head of global market insights.

Combined exchange volumes fell 3.45% in May to US$4.41 trillion, the lowest since September 2024, according to CCData’s measure of centralized spot and derivatives trading.
