Bitcoin, Ether slide as Binance reports security concerns

Cryptocurrency prices fell in global trading on October 30 after Binance, a cryptocurrency exchange, reported a potential security issue and said more than US$2.5 billion in assets had been frozen.

Bitcoin fell to a six-week low of US$77,646. Ether touched a two-month low of US$2,238.76.

BNB, a token originally launched as Binance Coin and used to pay Binance fees, dropped more than 8% in the past 24 hours to US$694, according to CoinGecko.

Binance also posted an update on the incident. The announcement did not say whether customer deposits or withdrawals were affected.

The exchange also maintains the Secure Asset Fund for Users, or SAFU, a reserve held entirely in bitcoin and intended to protect user assets in cases of security breaches, according to its website.
