Binance seeks more Asia licenses after EU setback
Binance said on July 9 it remains in talks with regulators in the European Union over its application to operate in the region. Co-CEO Richard Teng also said in Singapore that the company is seeking more licenses in Asia.
The cryptocurrency exchange withdrew its Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA) application in Greece and plans to seek authorization in another European Union country.
Teng said the delay was a surprise because Binance had submitted a fully compliant application and had been told it would be approved.
Crypto companies must obtain a MiCA license by July 2026 to keep operating in the European Union. A company authorized in one member state can then operate across the region under MiCA passporting rules.
Teng also said Binance is pursuing licenses across Asia. He pointed to the company’s partnership in the Philippines with local fintech company Blockshoals Technologies, and said more expansions were coming.
