Billionaire Leo KoGuan doubles Nvidia stake to 2 million shares

Billionaire Leo KoGuan said on X he doubled his stake in Nvidia to 2 million shares by buying an additional 1 million shares.

He made the purchase at a time when the war in the Middle East has sparked a global selloff.

He is estimated to have spent roughly US$350 million to acquire the shares.

KoGuan’s US$13.4 billion fortune on the Bloomberg Billionaires Index largely tied to Tesla.

Nvidia has fallen about 5% this year through Friday’s close while Tesla is down nearly 12%.

He wrote on X, “Hopefully, I can contribute a little to calm the nervous market. Good luck all.”

🧠 Food for thought

Implications, context, and why it matters.

A Tesla whale’s bet connects hardware and embodied AI

  • Investor Leo KoGuan calls himself Tesla’s third-largest individual shareholder, which puts his Nvidia buy in the hands of a well-known Tesla backer 1.
  • He says Tesla is “the leading embodied AI on Earth” and argues the market still undervalues AI-driven projects such as the Cybercab and Teslabot 1.
  • That framing makes his roughly $350 million Nvidia position read as a focused wager across the AI stack. It spans Nvidia chips and Tesla deployments in the physical world 1.
  • In 2024, KoGuan said he was “no longer all-in-Tesla” and started buying Treasury bills (short-term U.S. government debt) after worrying about a market crash. He later said he remains “mostly” invested in Tesla and T-bills (Treasury bills) 1.

One billionaire’s bet contrasts with insider selling and institutional scale

  • KoGuan bought 2 million shares, which is large for one person. It equals about 0.008% of Nvidia’s 24.3 billion shares outstanding 1.
  • Big holders still dwarf that position, including Vanguard (a large asset manager) with 2.23 billion shares as of June 30, 2025. CEO Jensen Huang held 922,922,938 shares, or 3.77%, as of March 2025 2.
  • Recent Nvidia insider activity has run in the opposite direction. Company executives and directors have only sold shares in recent months, including routine planned sales by CEO Huang 3, 4.
  • KoGuan’s stake reads as a public expression of confidence in AI. Nvidia ownership still sits mainly with large institutions, whose moves can sway the stock more than any individual holding 4.
